UrbanNomadMixes Jamming Diaspora Poetics

Dialogischer Diskurs in Mischsprache

ahhh…aha! aha?/a huh…aha!/ha ha hah/ diggadig diggadig dig-a-deep/ba ba bum/ the heart begins to hear the poem/ the heart recalls to smell the womb/ the heart rewrites to feel the dream…

heart in the tongue in the minds of deadly put-ins/ Herz in so viel macht-gier Darts/ das Herz gehört zum weinen/ beim gehen in der Fahrt/ reflecting the light/ disarming anger/ defusing fakes/ re-membering parts in the headless hurts/ in the listening of the hearing bone/ in the tone of the poem…

Nicolas Feretos fragte mich: What drives you to present UNMixers & poetics for this project? You usually bring artist activists mostly under 50!

Ich war immer transgenerativ, gegen ‚ageism’, or anti any kind of „fix-ism“.

We engage heroic poetics to subverse the raging demand for social media tweets. The process opens up creative spaces to show how human beings move, cross and fuse orientations in a flow within diasporic scenarios. It’s a way of reimagining to debunk such binaries as: persons or groups are either „urbans settled somewhere“ or „wandering nomads going anywhere“.

Fühlte mich betroffen in dem, was ich wollte: to become a European citizen via the Austrian nationality. Ich hatte es so geplant: even giving up my technocrat-diplomatic position at UNIDO. No, I didn’t go for early retirement, just felt ripe for rewirement. I expressed that poetically:

Taking a Chance:

i am hewing myself from a cold rough stone/ where I’ve contracted my life’s loan/ i am giving up being carved dead to the bone / i’m charging „schluss jetzt –kein zögern mehr… jetzt komm ich dran…

i am gearing for change on an unmapped road/ where the source is leading me on/  i’m giving up being someone’s kind of fun/ i’m opting for ways my heart steers me on/ now I’m heading for life’s elsewhere/ to samba with same spirits/

so pardon my dust/ but i’ve got to move on…

Here’s to Ukraine:

Ghosts of Ukrainian Cossacks who’ve seen it all, are rising up again/ They see the Mongol hordes destroy the Kievan Rus/ They see their own, free borderlands, the old Kraina, crumble once again/ They can recall the joy and hope that came a hundred years ago when Ukraine first was free/ They shudder at the memory of Soviet armies crushing freedom in an independent land/ They moan the millions starved to death and shot by Stalin’s henchmen/ And now again another Czar is stretching out his cursed hand to grab the riches of this blessed land…

Surprisingly, students from China, Hungary, Russia and Ukraine at Vienna’s Musik und Darstellende Kunst performed a flash dance mob to my prayer poem:

Dear God, dear Gaia

You made a garden/ fruitful and wholesome/ with plenty for each/ who cared to reach / into your Eden/ come roaring great  beasts/ pickin’ the best/ pollutin’ the rest … out of and into each other’s shell/ around and within each other’s spell/ out of and into each other’s hells/ around and within each other’s yells…

UrbanNomadMixes performance events are labs or workshops: to create and produce object-subjective agency dialogues about the „heroic poetics of diaspora effect“. How does each participant externalize and articulate the fusion of varied stages and fragments of journeys from different interior worlds?

where are we going?

where are we now/ now who is left and what is right/ how come we keep on just busting our best?

some are consumer providers/ splashing neons upon pumped-down herds/

others are tough trendy settlers/ conducting star wars in video rooms…

computers tell us they know it all/ upon their orders we talk to the stores/

they tell us since our brains are freaked/ we’re going the sure ways of

great dinosaurs…

Performers included the author and UNM co-initiator Franz Karl Prüller, Project co-curator Ruby Sircar, special guests Roma-Ukrainian jazz musician  Dmytro Kovalenko and German-Greek Nicolas Feretos plus an international dance group from the Musik und Darstellendekunst Wien: Hongshan Bi (China), Margarita Limbakh (Ukraine), Alexander Okhotnikov (Russia) & Julia Skopp (Hungary).
