Build solidarity – become a member!

Membership not only provides access to individual services, but also strengthens our political work to represent the interests of visual artists. About 1,000 visual artists (full members) are organised in the IG Bildende Kunst. In addition, people in art-related professions (associate membership or extraordinary membership) or simply with an interest in promoting IG Bildende Kunst (supporting membership) are very welcome!

Requirements for full membership

At least one item must be fulfilled in each of at least two categories:

Education
■ officially recognised degree from an art college or university
■ current or previous studies (without degree) at an officially recognised art college or university
■ graduation from the wiener kunst schule, Schule Friedl Kubelka Wien or the course for photography at FotoK

Practice
■ several years of artistic practice in the field of the fine arts before applying for membership
■ exhibition practice in art institutions, galleries and/or other art spaces
■ artistic productions, publications, interventions, performances, actions in media and/or public space

Awards and recognitions
■ purchases by public and/or private collections, museums or similar institutions
■ prize, award and/or grant for the artistic activity from public agencies or recognised institutions
■ reviews of the artistic work in print media, online media, TV and/or radio

Documents required
  • Artist curriculum vitae*
  • Portfolio or records of artistic practice*
  • If available: Diploma or degree certificate from an art college or university, in the case of ongoing studies a confirmation of study
  • Photograph

* if available online, a link to the applicant’s website is sufficient

Membership fee

The membership fee is currently fixed at EUR 69 per year, students and pensioners pay half (EUR 34.50).

Termination of membership is possible at the end of a calendar year, the notice of termination must be sent in writing to the Board.

  • Full members receive the IAA professional artist identity card (International Association of Art) at a reduced price
  • In the case of external projectscarried out by IG Bildende Kunst, preference will be given to members wherever possible
  • 20% discount on the editions of IG Bildende Kunst

To apply for membership, please fill out the form below and upload the relevant documents. The Board decides on admission and type of membership during their monthly meetings. New members will be informed by us in writing about their admission.
